Volunteer Spotlight: Noelle Woods

Kappa Delta volunteers are our foundation. They give their time, energy and expertise to keep Kappa Delta moving forward, and our organization would not be the same without them. Every month on the Emerald Edit, we’ll highlight one of our many incredible volunteers to showcase the impact they have on our members.

Noelle Woods (Eta Zeta-North Florida) wears two important hats as a Kappa Delta volunteer, serving as both the Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) chair and CAB-finance for Eta Zeta Chapter at University of North Florida. Driven by a desire to give back to the sisterhood that helped shape her into a confident, strong woman, Noelle dedicates her time to supporting Eta Zeta and its members.

For Noelle, volunteering with Kappa Delta offers a meaningful way to step back from the demands of her day job and daily responsibilities. It’s a joy for her to invest in the sisterhood that has given her so much. We caught up with Noelle to hear about her experience as a Kappa Delta volunteer and what it means to her.

Tell us a little about your roles. Depending on the needs of the chapter, I spend anywhere from 5 to 10 hours a week in my volunteer positions. As CAB chair, I support the chapter president with any issues that arise and help facilitate brainstorming sessions to find solutions. I also work closely with the Panhellenic delegate to navigate any changes within the Panhellenic community, including communication with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life at UNF. In my role as CAB-finance, I collaborate with the VP-finance to manage budgets, track payments and handle other financial matters. Together, we also brainstorm ways to educate chapter members on financial literacy.

What is the best part of being a Kappa Delta volunteer? Seeing the growth of our collegians, both individually and as a chapter. I love watching each member’s confidence blossom—from the time they join as new members to the day they graduate. It’s especially rewarding to see new council members, who might start out uncertain, quickly grow into their leadership potential. Watching them become confident leaders and strong young women is truly inspiring.

Tell us about a memorable moment you’ve had volunteering. One of the most memorable moments for me as CAB chair has been seeing both chapter presidents I’ve worked with receive the Sorority President of the Year award at our university’s Greek Awards. It fills me with pride to see our women excel, grow as leaders and strengthen our chapter in meaningful ways.

What advice do you have for other Kapa Deltas who are interested in volunteering?  I have two key pieces of advice for KDs considering volunteering: communication and boundaries. Communication is vital between CAB and the collegians. Each year, establish a communication plan that works best for both you and your collegiate counterpart before the year begins. Be clear about when and how communication should take place, and what times work best for you. Boundaries are just as important. Make sure to set aside time each day or week to focus on yourself, and communicate those boundaries with your collegians.
