Kappa Delta is a community of confident women that provides an inclusive environment and allows members to create a legacy on their campus.
When you join Kappa Delta,You become part of a national network of 300,000 women who are committed to building confidence and inspiring action. Kappa Delta offers its members opportunities to develop leadership skills, learn from others, grow personally and take action on issues that are important to them. It’s a place to develop friends for life who challenge you to be your best!

Why Kappa Delta?
Joining Kappa Delta is more than joining a group on your campus, it’s joining a network of more than 300,000 confident women from coast to coast who are inspired to support one another and make a difference.
Kappa Delta is a community of confident women that provides an inclusive environment and allows members to create a legacy on their campus! Kappa Delta is all about building confidence in our women and those around us – that’s what we stand for and it’s woven into the fabric of everything we do. From encouraging members to live with integrity, to inspiring members to be active leaders, to providing opportunities and experience that foster personal and professional growth for a lifetime – that’s what KD confidence looks like.
Kappa Delta was founded in 1897 with the intention to create a sisterhood based on building confidence in women and inspiring them to action in their communities – and 125 years later – that is exactly what Kappa Deltas across the country are doing.
How do I join a sorority?
As a member of the National Panhellenic Conference, Kappa Delta follows agreed-upon rules that make recruitment fair and consistent for all women. During the recruitment process, potential new members have the opportunity to meet members of different sororities on campus. It’s a mutual selection process that allows potential new members and the chapters to decide on the best fit.
Every college or university has different procedures for joining sororities, so your first contact should be the Panhellenic or Sorority/Fraternity Life Office on your campus. Go to the website of the university you are attending and find the link to the Sorority/Fraternity Life Office. Often, there will be information on how to sign up for sorority recruitment. If the website doesn’t provide that information, there should be a phone number or email address to contact the office!
How do KD chapters uphold the mission statement?
Kappa delta is all about creating a sisterhood where each woman can become the best version of herself through lifelong learning, friendship, service and integrity.
For our chapters and members, this might look like encouraging a sister to apply for a leadership position on campus; celebrating with a sister on the day she gets the dream job; empowering one another to be the best versions of ourselves; and leaning on one another as you move through the many stages of KD membership and life together.
I’m not a freshman, can I still go through recruitment?
Absolutely! Any woman perusing an undergraduate degree is able to join a sorority. What makes Kappa Delta so meaningful is the opportunity to be surrounded by and learn from freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. All unaffiliated women who have not been initiated into another sorority and did not sign an MRABA during the previous year’s primary recruitment, are eligible for membership in Kappa Delta.
Do I need recommendation letters? How do I get those?
Nope! Kappa Delta chapters do not require any recommendations. However, recommendation letters can be a helpful introduction to the Kappa Delta chapter at your university and be a place for you to provide them with any extra information they might not have gotten from your recruitment sign-up.
If you’d like a recommendation form to be submitted on your behalf, reach out to any Kappa Delta alumna or collegian* you know, and she can submit one!

*A collegiate member in good standing may submit an optional recommendation on a PNM who is going through recruitment at a different institution.
What’s a legacy?
A legacy is any woman who is the daughter, granddaughter or sister of an initiated Kappa Delta member in good standing – including half-and step-relatives!
It is important to note that being a KD legacy does not guarantee an invitation or membership.
If you’re a legacy, your Kappa Delta relative can indicate that when submitting an optional recommendation form! This will let the KD chapter at your university know you’re going through recruitment.
What is value-based recruitment?
Values-based recruitment is what all our chapters and other sororities part of the opens in a new windowNational Panhellenic Conference follow. It’s a recruitment method that goes deeper and is meant to help build connections all while helping you, the potential new member, feel confident about the organizations you’re meeting. Values-based recruitment helps you pick a sorority that holds the same core values, principles and standards as you.
Primary Recruitment vs. COB
Primary recruitment is the period during academic years when events are held by each sorority for the purpose of selecting new members. These primary recruitment events are organized by each individual college’s Panhellenic.
Continuous Open Bidding (COB) is a different type of recruitment event meant to gain new members that usually happens after the primary recruitment Bid Day and throughout the academic year. COB events tend to be less formal and structured; some might be coffee dates, movie nights, dinner together, etc.! The COB process is not structured by the College Panhellenic, and only chapters with available spaces are eligible to participate in COB. If COB sounds like something you’d be interested in, stay updated with the sororities on your campus throughout the year!
What do I wear?
Every school is different, but don’t sweat it! Your College Panhellenic will definitely let you know what you’ll need to wear and when – some even provide T-shirts for you to wear!
If you need ideas, wear outfits that make you feel empowered and like your most “you”! Use your recruitment outfits to show off your amazing personality.
