Kappa Delta Foundation Presents $60,000 in Orthopaedic Research Awards

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Kappa Delta Foundation presented three Kappa Delta Orthopaedic Research Awards totaling $60,000 at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. Kappa Delta has given more than $1.9 million to orthopaedic research since its partnership with the academy began. The 2016 award winners are as follows:
Young Investigator Award: Louis DeFrate, Sc.D., Duke University Medical Center
Ann Doner Vaughan Award: Francis Lee, MD, Ph.D., Columbia University
Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award: Edward Wojtys, M.D., University of Michigan
Alison Argersinger, national president and foundation board director, presented the Kappa Delta Orthopaedic Research Awards on behalf of the foundation.
“Each year, awards are presented to researchers who make key discoveries in the field of orthopaedics. Through their research they improve the lives of countless individuals, and the 2016 award winners are no exception,” said Alison. “It is our hope these awards will continue to encourage advancements in orthopaedic research, thereby enhancing the quality of life for us all and those to come.”
Starting with a $1,000 contribution in 1950, Kappa Delta now presents three $20,000 awards annually to leading orthopaedic surgeons and researchers. Often referred to as the Nobel Prize of orthopaedic research, the awards are presented to researchers who make key discoveries pertaining to many leading orthopaedic advances.
