Catch Confidence

post-default

For my chapter’s first Confidence Week, we wanted to find unique ways to promote confidence on campus and work towards our goal of strengthening our relationships with groups outside of the fraternity/sorority community. When the Catch Confidence cards were introduced at Kappa Delta’s National Collegiate Training Academy in February, I knew I wanted our chapter to use them. I really liked the idea of handing out the cards to sisters, friends and even strangers to recognize them for being confident.

We promoted a different activity each day of our Confidence Week. We chalked campus with confidence-building messages, started a chalkboard for students to write what makes them confident and held a social media campaign using #URconfident. We also dedicated one day of the week to giving out the Catch Confidence cards.

Each member was given five cards to distribute to a nonmember whom they noticed being confident — whether it was for speaking up in a class discussion, giving a presentation or simply rocking a confident attitude. We wanted to recognize our peers for their confidence and encourage them to keep it up! I love that these cards show that someone not only noticed a person being confident, but that they found it important to point out and, in return, that builds confidence.

We gave out cards all over campus. One member gave a card to a classmate who was about to go into her first job interview. Another member shared her cards with fellow students who had done well on a test, made it through a big class presentation and were dressed to impress. The process made each of us become more aware of how others were being confident in their daily lives, and we made new friends along the way.

Our first Confidence Week was a success in large part due to the Catch Confidence cards. We heard multiple people around campus talking about the cards, either because they had been given one or heard about someone else who had received one. It was a simple and effective way to get our whole campus involved in our event and made for a great day of building and celebrating confidence!

After seeing how well it went, we’ve decided to have Confidence Week again in the fall. Though the plans for our next Confidence Week are still in the works, one thing will stay the same and that is the Catch Confidence cards!
