Why do my grades matter so much to Kappa Delta? I’m a good, active member in my chapter but I’m struggling with school, and I’m worried about what might happen.
Dear Struggling Student,
We are sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties! Kappa Delta wants its members to succeed in school and in life. After all, that’s why we all went to college in the first place.
With sisterhood activities, Homecoming parades, sporting events and tons of new friends living just down the hall of your dorm, it’s easy to lose sight of why you’re really in school. It can be challenging to balance academics when there’s always something on your social calendar! Who wants to study for tomorrow’s quiz when all your friends are hanging out?
It’s important to remember you’re a student first and a Kappa Delta second. This focus on academic success is not new. Academics have always been a top priority for Kappa Delta. At a time when it was uncommon for women to attend college, opens in a new windowSara, Julia, Mary and I created an organization that offers members support for their intellectual endeavors. We believed in the pursuit of knowledge as a powerful and empowering goal.
Kappa Delta remains committed to providing members with the resources they need to be their best. KD chapters set GPA expectations for their members based on Panhellenic and university standards. Each chapter also offers an academic support program customized by the chapter and its advisors. Check with your chapter’s Academic Excellence chairman to find out more about programming options such as study sessions, mentoring by members in the same major and individual tutoring.
opens in a new windowFall semester is in full swing, and it’s likely your classes are starting to become more challenging. If you’re feeling the pressure from midterms, a heavy course load or a subject you simply don’t understand, reach out to the VP-academics of your chapter. Ask for help now while there is plenty of time before the semester ends. It’s easier to boost a low grade with a few months until final exams than to try and save your GPA at the last minute. Kappa Delta is here to help you earn the best grades possible.
Lastly, Kappa Delta wants members to take pride in their studies. Be present in the classroom, be an active participant in group discussions and be the leader in a study group setting. Working hard and succeeding in school is something to be proud of.
Each month we’ll feature questions sent to us from potential new members, collegiate members and alumnae about sorority life during and after college. Feel free to send Lenora a question on social media or by emailing email@example.com new email.
