A Leadership Development Consultant (LDC) is more than just a full-time Kappa Delta staff position — it’s an opportunity that will shape your future in ways you might never expect. As an LDC, you get to travel the country, support collegiate chapters, help shape the future of Kappa Delta and build connections that will impact you for life. Applications for 2025-2026 LDC cohort are open now through Dec. 5, and you can click here for more information. Current LDC Patty O’Leary (Eta Tau-Florida Gulf Coast) shares how this role sets you up for success in powerful, meaningful ways.
The moment I got the call offering me the Leadership Development Consultant (LDC) position is one I’ll never forget. Yes, landing a new job is always exciting, but this felt like more than that — it was a chance to grow, challenge myself and set myself up for a future filled with possibility. In this role, I’ve been lucky enough to experience opportunities that are not just preparing me for what’s next — they’re transforming me into the best version of myself. Here’s how being an LDC has set me up for success.
Kappa Delta truly invests in its LDCs. From the moment you step into this role, you’re given the tools and resources to grow — both personally and professionally – thanks to grant funding from the Kappa Delta Foundation. We have quarterly training sessions that focus on everything from facilitation skills to successfully guiding conversations to certifications like Mental Health First Aid. This year, we’ve had workshops about leveraging our LinkedIn profiles, individual career coaching and opportunities to develop in ways that align with our personal career goals. We also have a professional development coach who is an incredible resource — working with us one-on-one to help us set and achieve our goals. The support we receive doesn’t just help us now — it’s designed to prepare us for the next chapter of our careers, no matter where that may lead.
One of the most powerful aspects of being an LDC is the network you build. From working alongside Kappa Delta staff, supporting collegians and collaborating with volunteers, there is massive room for expanding your network. Being an LDC lends itself to fostering meaningful connections with those you meet, making connections that go far beyond a LinkedIn connection or a quick email. You form lasting bonds with women across the country who have found success in their careers. These women could be the perfect foot-in-the-door to a career path you love.
The skills you gain as an LDC are invaluable and transferable to any career path. Project management, conflict resolution, relationship building—these are just a few of the competencies you develop while working in this role. And because you’re working with one of the largest women’s organizations in the world, you already stand out. When you list your LDC experience on your resume, you’re showing potential employers that you have the leadership, initiative and adaptability they’re looking for. This role sets you up to walk into any room, confident that your experience is a game-changer.
There are few opportunities that provide the ability to travel like LDCs do. In this role, we travel up to 50% of our work time. Our travel includes heading to Kappa Delta National Headquarters for quarterly training and visits to chapters across the country. You have the opportunity to explore places you would never have been able to otherwise, broadening your perspective and worldview.
Of course, being an LDC is about making an impact — but it’s also about finding joy in what you do. There’s something special about the balance between working hard and building personal connections that makes this role so rewarding. When we come together for training in Memphis, we do things like take riverboat cruises or attend baseball games, enjoying each other’s company and having fun. But even when we’re working remotely, we find joy in spreading our love for Kappa Delta to everyone we meet. It’s an experience that’s both meaningful and fun and reminds you why you love this sisterhood so much.
Being an LDC isn’t just a job — it’s a journey that will shape your future, build your confidence and connect you with an incredible network of women. If you’re ready to step into a role that offers growth, purpose and adventure, now’s the time!
