In a world that constantly tells us to move faster, do more and stay busy, friendship often lives in the little things.
The quick text check-ins. The “thinking of you” messages. The late-night phone calls. The friend who always remembers your coffee order or sends the TikTok that somehow perfectly matches your mood.
That’s what International Women’s Friendship Month is all about. Founded by Kappa Delta in 1999, IWFM is a celebration of the women who support us, encourage us and walk through every season of life alongside us. And the best part? Celebrating your friendships doesn’t have to mean planning something huge. Sometimes the smallest gestures mean the most.
As we get ready to celebrate IWFM this September, here are 10 tiny ways to remind your friends just how much they mean to you.
You know the one.
The “I’m really grateful for you” text. The “I miss you” message. The “I was thinking about that funny memory from college today” note.
It takes less than a minute, but it might completely change someone’s day.
Bid Day. Formal. A blurry screenshot from a FaceTime call.
Friendships are built in ordinary moments, and sharing those memories is one of the easiest ways to celebrate them. Bonus points if you tell your friend why the photo still makes you smile.
There’s something special about hearing someone’s voice.
Send a quick voice memo to your friend telling her you’re proud of her, thinking about her or just laughing about an old memory together. It feels personal, genuine and a little more meaningful than a text.
IWFM is about celebrating women supporting women everywhere.
Tag a friend from another organization, reconnect with someone you met through Panhellenic or shout out the women on your campus who make your community stronger.
Tiny acts of kindness matter.
Pick up the extra coffee. Drop off the favorite candy. Venmo her “for a little treat.” Sometimes friendship looks like simply knowing what makes someone feel seen.
We all do it.
This month, turn the “we should” into an actual calendar invite. Whether it’s dinner, a walk, a FaceTime call or a weekend trip, intentional friendship matters.
One of the best things about KD friendships is that even after time passes, many friendships pick right back up where they left off.
Reach out to the roommate, the sister from your committee or the friend you haven’t talked to in a while. You never know how much someone may need that reconnection.
Not everything has to live online.
Write a quick handwritten note to a friend telling her why she matters to you. It doesn’t have to be long or perfect. The thought behind it is what she’ll remember.
One meaningful way to celebrate a sister this IWFM is by sending a rose in her honor through the Kappa Delta Foundation. Whether it’s a friend who supported you through college, the sister who still answers every late-night phone call or the alumna who helped guide you through a new season of life, a rose is a simple way to say thank you while supporting future generations of Kappa Deltas.
It’s a small gesture that honors the friendships that make our sisterhood so special.
Friendship isn’t always grand gestures.
Sometimes it’s showing up to the event. Sending the check-in text. Sitting together in silence after a hard day. Celebrating the wins and staying through the difficult moments, too.
The little things add up. They always do.
This September, as we celebrate International Women’s Friendship Month, we hope you’ll take a moment to recognize the women who make your life brighter. Whether it’s through a text, a coffee run, a throwback photo, sending a rose or a heartfelt conversation, every small act of friendship helps remind women that they are supported, valued and never alone.
Throughout September, Kappa Delta will also be sharing a story of friendship every day across our social media channels, highlighting the meaningful connections that make our sisterhood so special. We’d love to hear your stories, too.
