Kappa Delta volunteers are our foundation. They give their time, energy and expertise to keep Kappa Delta moving forward, and our organization would not be the same without them. Every month on the Emerald Edit, we’ll highlight one of our many incredible volunteers to showcase the impact they have on our members.
Morgan Anderson (Alpha Epsilon-Tennessee/Knoxville) supports Alpha Epsilon’s recruitment and marketing efforts as a member of their Chapter Advisory Board, a role she first stepped into in 2016. A former Leadership Development Consultant, Morgan knows just how impactful strong mentorship can be, and she brings that same energy to her work with the chapter.
Throughout the year, she typically spends an hour or two each week supporting the chapter’s VP-R&M, but as recruitment season ramps up, so does her involvement. From spring workshops to late-summer prep and long days during primary recruitment, Morgan often devotes more than 8 hours a week to ensuring the chapter is confident and ready. Her hands-on approach, thoughtful mentorship, and willingness to go above and beyond make her an invaluable presence in the lives of collegiate members.
What inspired you to serve as a volunteer for Kappa Delta? After serving as a Leadership Development Consultant, I returned home to Knoxville and helped my “big,” who was then the recruitment advisor for Alpha Epsilon, during primary recruitment. When she later moved across the state, I stepped into the role on CAB. My experiences as both an LDC and chapter member showed me firsthand the positive impact advisors can have on collegiate women, and I knew I wanted to continue giving back in a meaningful way.
How has volunteering enriched your life personally or professionally? As a remote employee, most of my daily interactions happen over Zoom, so volunteering has been a refreshing way to connect with others in person. It brings balance to my life outside of work and parenting and reminds me of the importance of community. CAB gives me purpose beyond my career and family, and I’m grateful for the relationships and experiences it brings.
What are your favorite parts of working with our collegiate members? I often joke with the chapter members that they help keep me young, but the truth is, I genuinely love being a mentor and a “big sister” figure as they navigate college, leadership and life beyond graduation. Some of the most meaningful connections come outside of their roles in the chapter, when I can simply be a sounding board, a safe space or a supportive listener.
What advice would you give to other Kappa Delta sisters considering a volunteer role? Volunteering is one of the most rewarding ways to stay connected to Kappa Delta and give back to an organization that gave me so much. It’s an opportunity to mentor and empower the next generation of women, forge lasting friendships, and grow personally and professionally.
There are so many opportunities to share your time and talent. From working with a local collegiate chapter on a chapter advisory board or house corporation board to serving on a foundation committee like the scholarship review committee, we are grateful for the thousands of alumnae who give back to KD.
