10 Ways to Celebrate Your KD Friendships This September

Every September, Kappa Delta celebrates something truly meaningful: the friendships that shape our lives.

In 1999, Kappa Delta created National Women’s Friendship Day to honor those deep, lasting connections between women. It was so well-received, we expanded it into a month-long celebration: International Women’s Friendship Month (IWFM). Since then, Kappa Deltas have used September as a time to reflect, reconnect and recognize the power of friendship.

Whether you met your KD person during recruitment, through an alumnae book club or decades after graduation at a reunion, this month is for you and your friendships.

Looking for ways to celebrate? Here are 10 meaningful, simple ideas to make the most of IWFM this year:

  1. Share your story

We’re spotlighting a KD friendship every day in September! Share your story — whether you’ve been friends for five years or 50! Submit your story, and help us show the world the lifelong impact of our sisterhood.

Submit your story here.

  1. Reconnect just because

Send a text. Schedule a FaceTime. Write a card. Drop off a coffee. It doesn’t have to be a big occasion to let someone know they’re on your mind.

  1. Make a playlist together

Music has a way of pulling us right back to special moments — recruitment week, road trips or wedding dance floors.

Share your go-to songs with your KD besties, and check out the official KD International Women’s Friendship Month 2025 Playlist on Spotify, made from your submissions!

  1. Recreate a memory

Find an old photo from your early KD days — from big/little reveal, a sisterhood or social event, Homecoming or a gameday, or even your first KD convention — and recreate it now. Post the side-by-side, and tag @KappaDeltaHQ. We love seeing how friendships grow through the years.

  1. Gather, in any way that works for you

Collegiate chapters might plan a sisterhood activity or confidence event. Alumnae chapters could host a walk, coffee catch-up or even a Zoom chat. And anyone could ask a KD friend to meet up! What matters is taking time to connect — not the size or setting.

  1. Celebrate Panhellenic friendships

Some of our best friendships cross chapter lines. Give a shoutout to your Panhellenic friends, collaborate on a post or event, or simply reach out to remind them how much you appreciate their presence in your life.

  1. Build confidence together

Attend a workshop. Try something new. Support each other’s goals. True friends make you feel capable, seen and supported. Celebrate that by doing something that challenges or energizes you.

  1. Plan a virtual catch-up

Not all friendships live in the same zip code. Set aside time this month for a catch-up call or FaceTime with the KD sister who’s miles away but still close in your heart.

  1. Lift each other up

Friendship fuels confidence. Cheer for your sister’s new job, big move or everyday win. Whether you hype her up in her Instagram comments, a group text or send a card, let her know you’re proud.

  1. Say it out loud

Sometimes, we don’t tell our friends just how much they mean to us. IWFM is your chance to change that. Whether it’s with a selfie caption, a card or a simple voice note, this is your nudge to say what matter.

Wherever you are and however you celebrate, International Women’s Friendship Month is a time to honor the relationships that give life joy, strength and connection. These friendships are worth celebrating — not just this month, but all year long.

Because if not for KD, just imagine all the friendships we might have missed.
