As I was going through recruitment, one of the things that led me to join Kappa Delta was that the sorority had two great philanthropies, one of those being Prevent Child Abuse America. Before I joined Kappa Delta, I didn’t know much about PCAA. I am now extremely passionate about this cause and there are so many reasons why.
PCAA is an organization that strives to prevent physical, sexual and emotional abuse. More than 2.9 million child abuse cases are reported each year in the United States alone. By creating awareness and being proactive, child abuse can be prevented. I hope that one day the number children who suffer abuse will be zero.
PCAA has impacted every member of my chapter. Each year, we host Shamrock Week, where we raise awareness about and money for the prevention of child abuse. The week concludes with our large philanthropy event, Broomball.
It is easy to get caught up in the excitement of the week, so as a chapter we make a point to reflect on the important mission behind these events. Each member of our chapter posts a “Throwback Thursday” photo of herself as a baby on her Instagram account during our Shamrock Week. In the caption, each member describes why she supports PCAA and the impact it has made on her life.
I thank Kappa Delta for empowering me to serve and giving me the opportunity to support PCAA.
