If you have been out of college a short time or like me, a very long time, I have a suggestion for you, attend the KD National Convention! Held every other year, conventions are designed to carry out the business of the organization — like National Council elections and bylaws amendments — but they offer so much more for everyone who attends.

I have attended several KD conventions in the recent past after decades of being disconnected. I was glad to be a part of it all again! From the very first minute, you’re reminded why you became a Kappa Delta, why you valued and enjoyed the experience as a collegian, and why being an “older” KD still has so much value. You might be surprised to see others who you knew way back when, and you will be very impressed by the young collegiate women you meet. Reuniting with friends is wonderful, and making new ones is wonderful, too.

There are interesting keynote speakers, small breakout sessions, awards to chapters, scholarships to deserving young women and many more activities. The best part is you’re able to choose what you want to participate in.

In the sessions, you will learn things you didn’t even know you wanted to learn and be glad for doing so. Hearing inspirational experiences of KD sisters will fill you with a sense of pride, hope and maybe even spur you to take action in your own community!

During the award ceremonies, including Order of the Emerald and Order of the Pearl, you will be awed by the accomplishments of KD sisters and chapters. The scholarship presentations will assure you that the future is in capable hands.

From the White Rose Garden to the KD Boutique, there are many tables to visit between meals and sessions.  The KD Boutique is a great place to buy gifts for sisters, but I have to admit, I always find many items for myself that I can’t live without!

The last night of convention is always my favorite. The national president gives a lovely, inspirational speech, retiring officers are acknowledged and the evening closes with all attendees gathering in a friendship circle to sing favorite KD songs, reminding us of being connected to each other from college onward.

The convention reminds us why we joined Kappa Delta and why we remain Kappa Deltas. The bond of sisterhood is tight, worthwhile, valued and forever. Attending convention is a way of reinforcing our bonds, whether you attend one convention or every convention. I hope to see you this summer in Phoenix!
