You Can Be a Leader in KD

I have always been a leader and driven to succeed. As a member of Kappa Delta, I was provided encouragement, resources and opportunities to hold three officer positions. KD helped me accomplish more than I ever dreamed possible.

I first served as assistant to the vice president-public relations, which allowed me to develop event planning and marketing skills. My second leadership position was as the vice president-operations. Within this role, I gained valuable time-management and interpersonal skills and learned to effectively communicate with council members to ensure everyone was on task.

In my third officer position as chapter president, I was able to utilize the skills I acquired in my previous roles. Not only did Kappa Delta provide me with a network of sisters who supported me, but it also gave me the tools to build my confidence and successfully lead our chapter.

As president, I was able to attend the Kappa Delta National Convention where I learned how to market myself to future employers in a seminar led by Pamela Nix, the executive director of Kappa Delta. Pamela spoke about how to showcase the work you have done within the sorority and transfer those experiences to a professional setting.

An exciting moment for Mikka and her Kappa Delta sisters.

Thanks to the skill set KD provided me, I was able to take full advantage of what college life had to offer. My Kappa Delta sisters encouraged me to pursue other interests outside of the chapter. One of my sisters introduced me to student government knowing that I am passionate about social justice. I was elected to serve as a justice on the judicial branch, a position that I held from sophomore year through the remainder college. My proudest moment was being able to pay it forward by helping another member of our sisterhood get involved in student government.

Kappa Delta is a supportive environment that helped me achieve goals that I didn’t think I was capable of. In return, I was able to support my sisters as well.
