Volunteer Spotlight – CAB R&M Mimi McCarroll

Kappa Delta volunteers are our foundation. They give their time, energy and expertise to keep Kappa Delta moving forward, and our organization would not be the same without them. Every month on the Emerald Edit, we’ll highlight one of our many incredible volunteers to showcase the impact they have on our members.

Mimi McCarroll (Alpha Mu-Mississippi) has remained deeply connected to Kappa Delta as an alumna, first as a leadership development consultant and now as the CAB-recruitment & marketing advisor for Alpha Delta-Rhodes. Through her volunteer role, she has the opportunity to mentor and guide chapter leaders, helping them build confidence and thrive in their positions. She’s passionate about the way Kappa Delta shapes its members, personally and professionally, and loves being part of their journey.

“Kappa Delta has given me so much, from tools for success to lifelong friendships across generations,” she says. “Volunteering allows me to connect with a new generation of members and help them flourish. It’s fun and meaningful.”

We caught up with Mimi to learn more about why she volunteers with Kappa Delta and what advice she has for other volunteers.

Why do you volunteer for Kappa Delta? The magic of Kappa Delta is that it connects women of all backgrounds and experiences and empowers them to build long-lasting friendships across generations. To me, volunteering for Kappa Delta is fun AND meaningful. I can connect my experiences and build relationships with a new age of Kappa Delta members. As an advisor, I am able to build confidence, guide collegians and watch them flourish in their positions. It is amazing to see how much Kappa Delta leadership can shape a collegian, and I feel incredibly blessed to play a small role in her growth as a leader. That is why I feel called to volunteer!

The best part of being an advisor? The best part of being an advisor is watching your collegiate counterpart succeed. Watching her put in so much hard work and have it pay off is truly rewarding.

Best tips for advising success? My best tip for advising success is to ask questions and have perspective on where your counterpart may be coming from before making a final decision. We all have our own experiences from when we were active members, but each new year brings a new chapter landscape. The chapter now is quite different from the chapter several years ago. And really, the same can be said for the organization and even the college as a whole. So, for me, asking questions and doing my best to have perspective helps me know how to best support and advise the chapter for long-term success.
