MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Nov. 3 marked the 23rd annual KD Tour Day at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR). Over 300 Kappa Delta members from Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina toured the hospital and new mental health facility and heard a testimony from a former patient.
Sarah Bennett (Alpha Pi-William & Mary), chapter advisory board member for Theta Mu-Richmond, presented a check for $25,000 on behalf of the Kappa Delta Foundation in honor of Kappa Delta Founders Day. CHoR is one of Kappa Delta’s national philanthropies and has benefited from more than $1.6 million in support since 1921.
Following the tour and check presentation, Kappa Delta collegians and alumnae welcomed motorcyclists delivering over 1,000 stuffed bears to the hospital for the 36th annual Teddy Bear Run. Organized by the Blue Knights VA III, the Teddy Bear Run features bikers traveling, with a police escort and bags of stuffed bears, from Richmond Harley-Davidson in Ashland down Route 1 to the hospital.
The foundation’s support has enhanced the hospital’s functionality by providing funding for features such as a playground in the hospital’s courtyard, the Kappa Delta Giggle Zone at the entrance of the hospital as well as infrastructure medical needs.
