Kappa Delta to Establish Chapter at West Chester University of Pennsylvania

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The National Council is pleased to announce Kappa Delta will establish its 164th active chapter at West Chester University in fall 2016. Kappa Delta will join 10 other National Panhellenic Conference sororities on campus: Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu, Phi Sigma Sigma and Zeta Tau Alpha.

“We look forward to establishing Kappa Delta’s eighth active chapter in Pennsylvania at an institution with a vibrant fraternity and sorority community,” said Susan Stockton, who as national vice president leads Kappa Delta’s extension efforts. “It is an honor to join a community that places great emphasis on philanthropy and annually donates over 7,000 hours of service and nearly $80,000 to worthwhile causes.”

For its focus on philanthropy, West Chester has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. It has been recognized as both a top regional university, a top public school in the north, a top school for veterans and a top 100 best buy. U.S. News & World Report ranks it the 18th top public school among regional universities in the north.

Founded in 1891, WCU is located 25 miles west of Philadelphia. It is the largest of the 14 public institutions in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and the fourth-largest university in the Philadelphia area. WCU enrolls more than 14,000 undergraduates, and 16 percent of its female students join sororities. The university competes in NCAA Division II athletics and has more than 20 varsity programs, making it one of the largest DII programs in the country.

West Chester’s long-term expansion plan, established in 2013, identified the goal of adding three Interfraternity Council chapters and two Panhellenic Council chapters over a three to four year period. Kappa Delta is thrilled to be included in this expansion plan.
