Purposefully living our values to make a difference

Many fraternities and sororities have a philanthropic purpose and an outlet for serving others and their communities. Kappa Delta is no exception. Community service and philanthropy are so central to the Kappa Delta experience that chapter life without them is almost unimaginable.

Kappa Deltas are passionate about making a lasting impact on the lives of others. Whether through giving time, money or resources, Kappa Delta has fostered philanthropic relationships with our national partners and encourages each sister to take action on campus and in her community.

Confident Women Choose Service

Whether we’re volunteering, raising awareness for a local cause, or making a donation, KDs serve and advocate in communities across the nation.

Prevent Child Abuse America

Founded by KD sister Donna J. Stone, Prevent Child Abuse America has been a national philanthropic partner, supported by thousands of KD sisters, since 1983. To date, Kappa Delta collegiate and alumnae chapters have raised over $33 million with local landmark fundraisers, such as 5Ks, soccer tournaments, carnivals and more, while also uplifting PCA America’s message of prevention and their work to ensure that all children can grow up confidently in safe and thriving communities.

Girl Scouts of the USA

Since 1998, Kappa Delta and Girl Scouts have partnered together to "build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.” Kappa Deltas serve as mentors and volunteers to more than 14,000 Girl Scouts each year, host confidence-building programs, educational events, campus tours and other activities with Girl Scouts in their communities.

The Kappa Delta Foundation

The mission of the Kappa Delta Foundation is to secure funds for the educational, leadership, and charitable purposes of Kappa Delta Sorority. Contributions from sisters and friends allow the foundation to offer scholarships, leadership training, grants, support to national philanthropies and more. In the last two years, the KD Foundation granted more than $2.7 million to fund programs that inspire and enable all Kappa Deltas to reach for their dreams.

Our Longtime Commitment to Making a Difference

For the first 15 years after Kappa Delta’s founding in 1897, charitable projects were not an officially organized pursuit. After weighing the possibilities, the National Council presented a recommendation to the 1921 Convention: that the sorority adopt a national philanthropy. Learn more about our history of service.

1921

The Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU became KD’s first national philanthropy. KD's contributions have provided necessary medical equipment and more.

Kappa Delta Historical Philanthropy AAOS Award

1947

The sorority established the Kappa Delta Orthopaedic Research Awards, which for more than 75 years, funded leading orthopaedic advancements.

1981

The KD Foundation was created to support Kappa Delta Sorority when the late Dorothea Cavin (Alpha Psi-Drury) left KD the largest single bequest it had ever received. The foundation provides undergraduate and graduate scholarships, educational programming, leadership opportunities and philanthropic support to a number of worthwhile causes.

1983

Inspired by the work of sister Donna J. Stone, KD developed an annual fundraising event, Shamrock, to unite all members in the fight against child abuse. Today, collegiate and alumnae chapters host local Shamrock events, with 80% of all funds raised staying local with community child abuse prevention agencies.

1998

Kappa Delta and Girl Scouts created a partnership to make a difference in the lives of girls across the country, with chapters partnering with local troops.
