Your Kappa Delta has joined a national network of women who are committed to building confidence and inspiring action. As a member, your KD will have so many opportunities to develop leadership skills, learn from others, grow personally and take action on issues that are important to them. It’s a place where she’ll develop friends for life who challenge her to be her best!
Kappa Delta was founded in 1897 with the intention to create a sisterhood based on building confidence in women and inspiring them to action in their communities, and we want you and your family to learn more about who we are, our values, policies and opportunities.
When creating Kappa Delta, our founders set out to create a sisterhood where each woman could grow into the best version of herself – instilling friendship, integrity, learning and service into each Kappa Delta.
Now, after 125 years of sisterhood, Kappa Delta is a sisterhood of more than 290,000 members across 168 collegiate chapters and more than 200 alumnae chapters across the country.
Kappa Deltas support their local communities by volunteering and fundraising for our national philanthropic partners, Girl Scouts of the USA and Prevent Child Abuse America, as well as many local organizations that are close to their hearts.
There’s so much to Kappa Delta and the opportunities your daughter or family has when joining. Explore our Who We Are page to learn more about the values, purpose and beliefs of Kappa Delta.
Kappa Delta offers each member endless opportunities to grow as a person, become more confident, and learn life skills that will prove invaluable throughout her lifetime. With our commitment to academics, a chance to live-in and build bonds a Kappa Delta owned facility that feels like home, opportunities to work as a team, a focus on personal development — these elements make Kappa Delta much more than just another club. Encourage your KD to take advantage of all that Kappa Delta has to offer.
The chapter that welcomed home your special Kappa Delta chose her because they found in her the kind of woman they want for a sister—someone with good character, a positive attitude and a commitment to sisterhood. As you might imagine, these expectations come with some important responsibilities.
No organization—especially one that involves as much intimacy as a sisterhood—can thrive without policies and standards. Kappa Delta’s standards range from behavior expectations to financial commitments. It’s important to note that the sorority’s policies are meant to be observed and its rules are meant to be obeyed. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary action, including lifting a new member’s pledge or placing an initiated member on bad standing, national probation or expulsion.
You can read Kappa Delta’s policies on our Policies page!
For more information on Kappa Delta’s positions and policies, members may access the Member Handbook by logging in to the Resource Library. You can ask your KD to login and download a copy for you!
You may have heard the saying, “To whom much is given, much is required.” The same goes for sisterhood in Kappa Delta. Each of our members has a responsibility to uphold the values upon which the sorority was founded, and Kappa Delta uses our policies and each chapter’s accountability and support board to help uphold the values of our sisterhood.
With the help of the accountability and support board, each chapter has the ability to help our collegiate sisters repair the impacts of an incident that might have occurred, hold members accountable for their actions, and build community. These accountability and support boards are made up of the chapter’s vice president-inclusion officer, an alumna member from the chapter’s advisory board, and an elected member from each academic class. This board is there to uphold Kappa Delta’s member policies, foster trust, remedy any harm created by an incident, and create educational resources and outcomes instead of punitive actions.
Kappa Delta expects its members to make academics a priority and sets standards that members are expected to meet. Each chapter sets a GPA minimum based on Panhellenic standards and the all-women’s average. If a member falls below the standard, she must sign a scholarship contract, which might include the loss of social privileges and an action plan for improvement.
Each KD chapter sets their own member dues depending on their chapter budget needs. The chapter operates within a budget that is based on revenue and expenses. The expenses are what help make the chapter run; the revenue is provided by payments from the members. The majority of dues and fees stay in the chapter to meet expenses related to recruitment, social activities, rent or mortgage payments and such. A minimal amount goes to the national office to cover administrative services, leadership support and national programming.
Leadership Opportunities
Life in the chapter provides many ways for your KD to grow as a leader and become involved in issues that are important to her, whether it be for an on-campus club, as a volunteer or by taking an officer position in her chapter! She will have the opportunity to discover her talents, perfect her abilities and develop new skills that will help her gain confidence and be her best self.
Scholarships
To ensure that all members have the means to excel, the Kappa Delta Foundation awards over $800,000 in scholarships to members every year. Some of these are for general studies, while others are designated for specific fields.
KD scholarships are just one way that Kappa Delta puts an emphasis on academics and makes education a priority.
You can have your KD provide your contact information and email address to the chapter and national Kappa Delta, or she can add it herself on the Member Portal. You can also stay in-the-know with KD by following us on social media!

When reaching out to Kappa Delta as a parent or family member, please know that membership in Kappa Delta Sorority is between the individual member and the organization. While Kappa Delta values the involvement of our members’ friends and family, we support our collegiate and alumnae members’ right to privacy.
To maintain the privacy of our members, Kappa Delta will not provide details to family or friends on matters involving membership status, discipline and certain financial issues. A member may choose not to share all information regarding her sorority membership with her parents, guardians, family or friends, and we respect her choice and privacy. Kappa Delta Sorority provides experiences that build confidence in women and inspire them to action, which includes allowing each member to own her membership experience.
