Volunteer Spotlight: Donielle Powell

Kappa Delta volunteers are our foundation. They give their time, energy and expertise to keep Kappa Delta moving forward, and our organization would not be the same without them. Every month on the Emerald Edit, we’ll highlight one of our many incredible volunteers to showcase the impact they have on our members.

Meet Donielle Powell (Delta Phi-Georgia Southwestern), a dedicated volunteer who has served on Delta Phi’s chapter advisory board in several roles for the last seven years. In her current role as CAB-collegiate facilities, Donielle provides invaluable guidance and support to the chapter’s director of housing, ensuring that the chapter floor remains a welcome and comfortable space for all members.

Curious to learn more about her dedication, we caught up with Donielle to hear why she volunteers with Kappa Delta and what it means to her!

What inspired you to volunteer for Kappa Delta? My experience as an active member of Kappa Delta inspired me to volunteer for the organization, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back. As a volunteer, I have witnessed firsthand how Kappa Delta helps its members grow into leaders who are committed to making a difference in their communities. Watching our active sisters take on new challenges and work tirelessly because of their love for Kappa Delta is truly inspiring. It’s heartening to see how the organization instills a sense of purpose and passion in its members, and I feel privileged to be a part of this journey.

What do you get out of your time volunteering? Volunteering is a highly rewarding experience I will always cherish. As a volunteer for Kappa Delta, I have had the opportunity to inspire and assist women in unleashing their full potential, equipping them with essential leadership skills that will benefit them in the long run. I guide and support them as they face the challenges of college and their chapter, while motivating them to discover their unique strengths and talents. Through volunteering, I have also acquired new skills that have helped me in my personal and professional life.

Tell us about a memorable moment you’ve had volunteering. During my time volunteering with Delta Phi Chapter, I had many memorable moments. One of them was our successful efforts to make our chapter facility a positive experience for all members. In 2021, only one sister was living on the chapter floor, but this upcoming year, we have a high demand for sisters who want to live on the floor, even with a waiting list. The chapter and volunteers are extremely proud of this achievement but will continue working towards improving the chapter floor and the overall experience.

What advice do you have for other Kappa Deltas who are interested in volunteering? You won’t regret volunteering. Although it’s not always easy, there are many unforgettable moments you’ll be proud of. You will be shaping and helping women grow into what is honorable, beautiful and highest.
