Serving as a leadership development consultant for Kappa Delta is more than just a job. It’s a privilege, opportunity and incomparable experience that no other role will ever offer. LDCs are given the opportunity to live a purposeful, impactful and inspiring experience their first year out of college; that’s something most entry level jobs can’t compete with.
I always admired LDCs and assumed the role to be glamorous because of their knowledge, professionalism and “KD perfection.” They seemed to always have the answer to everything. When my senior year of college rolled around, I applied to be a LDC to give back to the organization that gave so much to me throughout my years in college. I loved mentoring women as chapter president and wanted to continue to be the same for student leaders nationwide.
I still remember the day I was driving home from my internship in San Diego and received a call from Alison Jakes Argersinger, former national president, letting me know I had been chosen to travel for the upcoming year. I was in shock and absolutely ecstatic! Little did I know the journey I was about to embark on would offer incredible experiences and the chance to meet women who would leave an imprint on my life forever and shape the world I live in.
When you become a LDC, you join the most epic level of sisterhood in Kappa Delta. Whether it’s catching up with former LDCs from your chapter, meeting with past consultants on chapter visits or bonding with women in your own consultant class, you always know you have sisters who get what you’re going through and know the struggles you are enduring.
I shared some of my favorite sisterhood moments with collegiate women I had known only a few days —celebrating a successful first recruitment at Bid Day with Theta Pi-Alabama/Birmingham; getting goosebumps during the empowering Preference speeches at Theta Gamma-Brown; and laughing hysterically from the custom raps created at Epsilon-Louisiana State. Our Kappa Delta chapters are incredible because they hold some of the most intelligent, creative and inspiring women in our country. I have always hoped that I would be able to impact collegians, but I never realized how much collegians would impact me.
The LDC experience is the epitome of “enlarging your world,” as each visit and challenge presents growth both personally and professionally. Each day is unpredictable and presents new challenges, diverse groups people and new ways of working. The opportunities I experienced as a collegian, and now as a LDC, are transferable to what I want to pursue in the future. After visiting 14 new states, working with 2,063 collegians at 18 different chapters, drinking countless cups of coffee and flying 59,443 miles, I am forever grateful for the opportunity I’ve had these past 16 months. I encourage you to apply for this incredible opportunity. Oh, the places you’ll go!

So… get on your way!”
