National Council Is on Fire

post-default

It has been my honor and pleasure to know many members of the National Council since my initiation in 1982. There is one trait that has shone through in each: selflessness. National Council members spend countless hours each week planning and implementing our collegiate and alumnae programming, guiding national volunteers and managing our fiscal resources, while envisioning and conceptualizing our strategic plan for future strength and growth.

When I think of our former, current and future National Council members, Alicia Keys’ Girl on Fire lyrics play on repeat in my mind:

Oh, she got both feet on the ground
And she’s burning it down
Oh, she got her head in the clouds
And she’s not backing down

This girl is on fire
This girl is on fire
She’s walking on fire
This girl is on fire

Everybody stands, as she goes by
Cause they can see the flame that’s in her eyes

Don’t we want our National Council members to display the ability to both think strategically and be visionary?  Shouldn’t they be grounded in solid programming and fiscal responsibility and at the same time engaged in imaging our thriving future?

Each convention year brings with it the nominations and elections process. As chairman of the 2015-2017 Nominating Committee, I pledge to work with the committee to create a balanced and qualified National Council which supports the whole organization and demonstrates leadership skills, qualities, experiences and behaviors which are critical to ensure Kappa Delta’s future advancement. This principle of balanced and qualified leadership and succession will guide the Nominating Committee in slating candidates for National Council and recommending the appointment of candidates for the 2017-2019 Nominating Committee.

Information and applications for National Council and the Nominating Committee are available on the Kappa Delta website.  All applications are due Jan. 15, 2017, and candidate interviews will be held Feb. 24-25.  The slate will be announced by March 10.

I urge all members to review the elections materials, including the position descriptions for National Council and the Nominating Committee, and assist the Nominating Committee in identifying and encouraging qualified candidates to apply.

This organization is ON FIRE because of our past, current and future leaders.  Please join me in celebrating, promoting and participating in our elections process.
