Happy childhoods don’t just happen on their own; it takes parents, grandparents, teachers, daycare providers and many others who are dedicated to creating a safe and loving environment for their children. Each year there are over 2.9 million reports of child abuse in the United States.

From Prevent Child Abuse America, here are a few simple ways you can help prevent child abuse.

Be a role model. Children watch our every move and listen to our conversations, even when you think they aren’t paying attention.

Help a friend, neighbor or relative. Being a parent isn’t easy. Offer a helping hand to take care of the children, so the parent(s) can rest or spend time together.

Help yourself. When the big and little problems of your everyday life pile up to the point you feel overwhelmed and out of control – take time out. Don’t take it out on a child.
