MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE – The Kappa Delta Foundation is responding to the urgent needs of our undergraduate and graduate members by raising money to increase the number of scholarships awarded this summer. Individuals are encouraged to connect with KD sisters and support this initiative by purchasing virtual roses from the Kappa Delta Foundation White Rose Garden during the #GivingTuesdayNow campaign, May 5-12, 2020.
“Kappa Delta has seen an immediate impact on our undergraduate and graduate members, many of whom already carry student loan debt and have limited resources,” said Kappa Delta Foundation Chair Beth Martin Langford. “Every aspect of their lives has been disrupted with unexpected housing and food expenses; restricted travel; limited income from hourly jobs or work-study positions; and other unforeseen challenges including some parents losing their jobs.”
“COVID-19 has left many students confused and hurt due to financial burdens,” shared Kendall Runyan (Beta Pi-Florida), a 2019 scholarship recipient. “Many of my sisters have off-campus leases and must continue paying rent even though they are no longer on campus. Those who pay for their own educational expenses do not qualify for the stimulus relief because their parents can claim them as dependents. I personally lost a paid internship opportunity for this summer. The financial and emotional impact of this pandemic cannot be overstated.”
During the #KDGivingTuesdayNow campaign, purchased roses will support scholarship opportunities that will provide much needed relief for students. Every rose sent will help award more scholarships than ever this summer. Roses start at just $5.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020, as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
