Give Back During the Holiday Season
How do you give back?
With the holiday season upon us, somewhere between the pecan pie, social gatherings and relentless holiday shopping, we try to remember the “reason for the season.”
Today, Nov. 15, is National Philanthropy Day. It’s an obscure and relatively unknown observance which began in 1986 as a day to celebrate charitable activities, in the form of donated financial, in-kind and volunteer support.
In just under two weeks, on Nov. 27, we will observe Giving Tuesday. Since its inception in 2012, this better-known day for philanthropy has grown into a global movement. Giving Tuesday is a day marked for giving back. It exists primarily on social media and follows those days that are traditionally known for consumption: Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, traditionally a time when we focus on our holiday and end-of-year giving.
Giving Tuesday is a great day to make a gift that supports Kappa Delta. The Kappa Delta Foundation supports your sisters and the communities where they live, work and play in a variety of ways. Here are just a few examples of the opportunities the Kappa Delta Foundation provides:
- Graduate and undergraduate scholarships to offset the skyrocketing costs of a college education;
- Professional development in the form of paid internships;
- Educational training for collegiate members that addresses personal safety, sexual assault and hazing prevention;
- Grants for quality programming and prevention-oriented projects that have a direct, positive effect on families and children in communities where Kappa Deltas live and work;
So, let’s ask again. How do you give back?
“Like” and follow the Kappa Delta Foundation on Facebook. Share the stories of those who are impacted by your gifts to the Kappa Delta Foundation page. And, please, make a gift by going to donate.kappadelta.org.
The Kappa Delta Foundation is very grateful to all of the volunteers who give of their time and their treasure in support of their KD sisters! We wish you a happy National Philanthropy Day!
